Pangnirtung is home to some of the most accomplished Inuit carvers in the
Arctic. As a whole, Pangnirtung's community of carvers is comprised of a full
range of artists at various stages of development and recognition, including
internationally recognized names as well lesser known artists and crafts
people. Some of the carvers specialize in traditional or serpentine soapstone;
others specialize in antler and ivory - all indigenous materials that are by-products of
the traditional Inuit way of life. Further information about carvers, their work and how to purchase carvings can
be obtained by contacting the
Uqqurmiut Centre for Arts & Crafts.
